| [2009-10-19] MVC - Men II - Game 1 (18 Oct 2009) |
|---|
| Cracking couple of games yesterday fellas! As an experienced coach with a keen tactical eye, I was impressed in the teams determination in both games. Especially when somehow loosing that first set to Spikopaths after leading by about 8 points, to win the match 2-1. So as temp coach (with a little help from others on the day) I felt it my duty to produce a coaches report: Alan - Highlight of the match for the travelling MVC supporters had to be Alans dive and roly-poly showboat in front of the fans. Donna didn't even know you had moves like that! Collin - Some great smashes from the net made for great viewing. Unstoppable some might say. Dan - Volleyball debut. Popped his cherry in great fashion, however his shorts....... out of fashion! Some great hits and ups lead the way to victory Dave - Captain Dave, solid as a rock. Had his "body in the oven" for sure with dives all over the court. His head, for the most part, stayed in the fridge! Showed the usual determination and focus to rally the troops Harald - Showed true determination in getting to every one of those dumps from the opposition, racking up MDP (most diving player) James - (the true tactician of the team) finding the "hole... the hole... the great big hole!" in the oppositions defence time and time again. And of course those speeches in the huddle to settle and focus the team (I helped him with those though!) Steve - When the opposition launches one over the net.... who you gonna call?.... Steve! Some great ups and consistent tidy balls to the setter made life for the team easier. Lets hope the season is filled with more of the same. 3 - 2- 1 - HEADS!!! and for collin...... "a hole..... a hole.... a great big hole!". rratnapala |
| [2008-12-07] Mens result |
|---|
| Maidenhead men played the usual double header on Sunday against Spikeopaths
and Farnborough Vipers at Wavell Cody School, Farnborough:
Maidenhead played Spikos first and we won 25:27, 29:27 and 15:13. A close
game but we showed our fighting spirit to win.
We also won the second game, relatively easily, against Farnborough Vipers,
25:16 and 25:18.
Team: Colin, Yemi, Raff, Oli, Luciano, Mike, Andy, David and Gary. ggrung |
| [2008-10-27] Mixed Result 26th Oct 08 |
|---|
| A great start to the season for the Mixed Team yesterday, winning both games with enthusiasm and confidence which made for a very enjoyable afternoon.
The team was down to the bare bones following injuries before the game and the non-availability of several players due to prior commitments. This resulted in players having to play in unfamiliar positions and with new team mates. However, everyone rose to the challenge and adapted well with great teamwork and encouragement for each other.
The first match was the tougher against Spiko’s 2 who had couple of strong male hitters. We took the first set but closely lost the second, the third set was also close but we finished the stronger. The second match against the weaker Farnborough team saw us slip behind a little bit complacently at the start of each set but rallied each time to win two sets to nil.
The team was Me (setting & reverse hitting), Dave M (amazing spring in the jump and back court agility, developed more and more in his new middle position throughout the games), Harald (Once again forced to play in the middle, great consistency at the net and commitment on the back court), Karina (great setting and reverse hitting as usual), Donna (Great digging and consistent hitting through 4, fantastic back court hit), Oliver (Powerful serving, accurate digs, great pick ups and clever hitting through 4). aswoden |
| [2008-10-13] Men Matches Report |
|---|
| The first mens match was played last night. Our opposition was Didcot and
Spikeopaths 1. After getting lost out in the sticks we arrived a bit late
for the match to find a children's party was still in full swing.
Our first match was against Didcot and after a bit of a shaky start they
were soon despatched...
The second match was against a strong Spikeopaths 1 team with 3 MVL
registered players. Again we had a weak start and lost the first game.
However, we came back strongly to draw level in the next game and then
powered on to win the third and claim the match.
PLAYERS
Mike - Good, strong power play through 4
Colin - Great hands to provide a high level of setting
Andy - Consistent hitting and blocking in the centre
David - Enthusiastic with good pick ups
Alan - Good all round and back up for the setter
Oli - French flair in his hitting and blocking
Gary - Through four ggrung |

|---|
| Referee (Grade IV) course in January 10th and 17th at Queen Mary’s College, Basingstoke. Cost approx. £30. We need qualified referee as 1st referee for all BVA matches and we need more referee for the Men’s team.
It helps to know the rules as there will be new rule changes this season on net touch and cross over the centre lines. It likely will start at the beginning of January 2009.

| [2006-03-27] BVA 2006 Plate - May 13th and 14th |
|---|
| For your information, this year’s BVA Plate competitions will be over the weekend of 13th and 14th of May. Venue is yet to be decided and probably will be at Bracknell Sport Centre. Can you all try to make these dates free if you are interested to take part?
The format will probably the same as previous year, since the Men are promoted back to Div 1 which means they will be playing on Saturday (morning), the Ladies (afternoon) and the Mixed on Sunday (afternoon) with the AGM at lunch time.
Let me know if anyone has any comments or suggestions for how the teams selected, run the team or the league… One remark I have is to have unlimited NVL registered players to play in the Div 1 (both Men and Ladies) and maximum of 3 in the other leagues. This will improved the standard of the games and attracted better players or teams in BVA. syips |
| [2006-03-02] England vs Norway |
|---|
| I have just received an email that Mole Valley Council had rejected the application for an Event Licence for the match between England and Norway although Surrey Police had no problem with it, therefore we are not allowed to have any spectators in the sports hall.
One way or another the match WILL go ahead whether it is ‘behind closed doors’ at Ashcombe with NO spectators (you will be turn away at the door) or at a different venue. So if you are thinking about to come, email me say you are and I will update you with the latest news as I received them… syips |
| [2006-02-27] County Cup 2006 |
|---|
| This year’s County Cup will be at Loughborough University over the weekend of May 6th and May 7th. Can you pass on this message to all clubs and see there are any interests? Are we prepared to enter a team for that, both men and women? Remember the entry fee is £150 per team and can we afford it?
Bear that in mind, only two NVL Div 1 players are allowed on court at any one time for the County Cup… I’m afraid there will be no Area Cup this year. syips |
| [2006-02-23] Guildford and Leeds at American Community School |
|---|
| Just to confirm the time this Saturday’s NVL W2 game between Guildford and Leeds at American Community School, Cobham warm up at 13:30 and first serve at 14:00.
After that, there will be NVL M1 (top two teams) London Malory against London Dockland at Brunel University warm up at 17:00. It should be a good game to watch as 70% of the players are played for England (past or present). See me for more detail if you are interested…
By the way, if you are not going to ASC then, London Malory is playing Wolverhampton (against NVL W1 top two teams) at Brunel University warm up at 15:00 just before the Men’s game. This is the top women of English Volleyball, at least 50% of Wolverhampton and 75% of London Malory represent for England and Scotland. Some of them will be playing the week after against Norway at Ashcombe Volleyball Centre.
See me for more information if you are interested. Pass this round and let me have your email that you won’t get missed out etc…
